Caima

Caima Mill produces bleached hardwood sulphite pulp. 95% of its annual output of 120,000 tones is sold in the European market. This kind of pulp is used for speciality paper products.

The sulphite process is a chemical process used to remove the lignin from the pulp. It is the oldest chemical process in the pulp industry. The process is based on an acid pH environment; it delivers pulp with a lower strength than that of kraft.

The sulphite pulp produced at Caima has special properties that make it suitable for applications such as high grade tissues and speciality papers for printing and writing, for example coloured or watermarked papers. The pulp is Totally Chlorine Free (TCF) and is in high demand in northern European countries, in particular Germany.
